Accommodation On The Portuguese Camino

Spain is one of our favorite European destinations, and here we find ourselves planning another trip to Spain in 2024 after working as a digital Nomad in Valencia for 8 weeks in 2023. Walking the Camino De Santiago is part of an 8-week planned trip to Spain in 2024. Traveling during Easter, a busy time on the Camino made us realize that we needed to plan accommodation on the Portuguese Camino before the trip, to ensure that hotels were not fully booked. You can learn more from our experience about the accommodation on the Portuguese Camino.

We are only doing the last 220 km of the Camino de Santiago Portuguese route. The group consists of 5 adult family members walking together from Porto to Santiago. As we walk, the blog will be updated with more details of our actual experiences in each location.

For this trip we are avoiding auberges and going for the slightly more expensive hotels or guest houses.

Accommodation Recommendations in Porto

We are flying into Porto, so spending at least one night here made sense. We chose the Apartment Gran Via because it is close to downtown.

Porto is a fabulous city to visit. There are so many things to do. Last time we were in Porto, we did a Duoro Valley tour. It involved getting on a boat with 3 catered meals, a visit to some vineyards that produce wine for port, and the highlight, going down the river through lochs.

Apartment

We love staying in Posadas, but to keep costs down for the larger group, we decided to stay in a cheaper apartment. Live in Porto – 68 Regras.

Casa da Marisma is another option for accommodation in Redondela. We selected to stay in Redondela for 3 nights. The plan is to walk about 20 km on day one, then take an Uber/ taxi to the house. The next day we will take an Uber back to the point where we stopped. We will follow this process for 3 days. Our main reasoning is that it is Easter Weekend, and with elderly parents traveling with us (although not walking), we thought this would be the best way for them to not have to pack up every day.

Accommodation Recommendation in Barcelos – On The Inland Route On The Portuguese Camino in

The plan is to spent to nights in Barcelos. This will allow us one full day to take a train to Braga. Braga is said to be “the Spanish Rome,” and we love Rome, so this felt like a good way to start. Walk one day, and then rest one day 🙂

Our selection for Barcelos fell on Casa Da Ana Boutique Guest House.

Accommodation Recommendation in Balugães

Here our selection fell on Casas da Quinta da Cancela.

Accommodation Recommendation in Ponte de Lima

Casa da Travessa was our selected hotel.

Accommodation Recommendation in Tui

Here we just could not help ourselves and we went for The Parador. Yes it is a little more expensive, but we know from prior trips that the Parador is in most cases the best historic building in a town or town, converted to a hotel.
