Our recent trip to Spain included a trip to Madrid in the winter. This trip in 2023 offered more than just the opportunity to experience art, culture, architecture, and cuisine. It also offered the opportunity to be part of Rebagas, Madrid’s annual winter sale. Madrid in January is the place to be if you love shopping.

There are many things to do in Madrid in the winter, but if you are a shopaholic and fun is measured in the number of bags you carry home each night, this is the place for you. Madrid is considered one of Europe’s best cities for sales. This blog covers winter sales, but there are also sales in the summer.

When is The Sale On?

Sales start on Christmas day, mainly for Christmas ornaments; stores offer significant discounts, known as “Rebajas,” which attract shoppers. If you are in Madrid in January, there are many sales opportunities, but these sales sometimes last into March or April.

“Rebajas” in Madrid refers to the annual clothing sales season that typically begins on the 7th of January, following the holiday period. This is a highly anticipated time for both locals and tourists, as it offers the opportunity to find great deals on a wide range of products. Here’s what you should know about the Rebajas in Madrid:

Shopping Areas:

Gran Vía: Known as Madrid’s shopping street, it’s lined with big brand stores and smaller boutiques, all offering discounts.

Salamanca District: For those interested in high-end and luxury shopping, this area provides opportunities to find designer goods at lower prices.

El Corte Inglés: Spain’s largest department store chain, with multiple locations in Madrid, offers significant discounts across various product categories.

Although I am not a big clothing shopper, I loved their sales in the fabric stores.
